The main purpose of this role is to assist the current Underwriter in managing and underwriting a portfolio of Casualty business (renewal portfolio and new business targets) for Chubb South Africa through brokers and other distribution channels.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in Underwriting and developing Casualty business ensuring new business growth, renewal retentions, sustainable loss ratios and profitability.
- In addition to Casualty, assist in driving the growth of new products including EIL (Environmental Impairment Liability) and Life Sciences
- Development of broker relationships and market profile involving regular monitoring of acquisition and retention metrics, communication/collaboration with broker partners and co-ordinated teamwork with business development and marketing.
- Ensure all accounts are underwritten in-line with guidelines and authorities. Manage quality referrals for risks outside of authority.
- Maintain accurate underwriting data and records and ensure peer reviews and underwriting audits are satisfactory.
- Train and develop competency of Chubb underwriting guidelines and best practices. Ensure growth of portfolio is in line with the Global and Regional underwriting appetite and authorities. Provide quality referrals for risks outside of authority.
- Support Functions: Close collaboration and teamwork with Operations and other support functions in terms of agreed processes to ensure that internal and external quality and time service standards are met (quoting, booking, policy issuance, data integrity, etc.).
- Work within the framework of Chubb ethical and service standards. Collaborate with legal and compliance and risk.
- Adhere to agreed service levels both internally and externally to achieve superior underwriting service and assist in producing management reports as and when required.
Required skills & Experience:
- 2+ years of Underwriting experience in the Insurance Industry in South Africa with core proficiency in Casualty lines
- Strong technical skills in Casualty Underwriting. Having experience in Environmental Impairment Liability and Life Sciences will be a definite an advantage.
- Outgoing person with business development and relationship management skills
- Self-driven, efficient, organized and results oriented
- Professional insurance qualifications or progress towards insurance qualifications is an advantage
- Good knowledge in using office package
