Property Underwriter

We have an excellent opportunity to support our general underwriting of new and renewal business and expand our Gross Written premium through London market brokers which is more fully defined in our business strategy. Reporting to the Chubb Bermuda International Property Manager, you will be based in London and will be required to deliver high quality client / customer service and to assist the team in achieving budget.

Predominantly broker facing, you will be responsible for handling assigned new and renewal business and will operate within level of authority delegated from the Underwriting Manager. 

The breadth of this role is multifunctional and will require underwriting of US and International property business, with some exposure to technical risks including power and energy. 

Key responsiblities: 

• Produce new and renewal business within delegated authority to achieve set targets.
• To accurately assess and peer review other accounts in the team
• To build and maintain good knowledge and relationships with our current and potential brokers/clients. Specific trades, territories and brokers will be assigned to the Underwriter.
• Responsible for marketing to develop trade sectors, countries and brokers
• Maintain and develop both own technical knowledge and expertise ensuring personal adherence to Chubb Policies & Procedures and regulatory authority requirements.
• To positively promote CBI internally and externally. To represent Chubb to brokers, internal and external clients and conferences, as applicable.
• Undertake all other duties as reasonably required by the Property Manager that are applicable to this role.
• To manage aggregates and reporting as agreed with Underwriting Manager.
• To manage documentation efficiently and within underwriting procedures
• To work within the framework of Chubb ethical and service standards
• The Underwriter may need to work from our Lloyd’s box and will require frequent interaction with the Underwriting Team in Bermuda.

Knowledge & Experience: 

• A good standard of general education (including standard grades / GCSEs / Highers / A-levels or equivalent – in English and mathematics.
• Attained ACII or working towards it or a strong desire to move towards completing that qualification
• Good level of Microsoft Excel skills required
• Experience of underwriting US and/or international property business, with a network of broker contacts in the London property market
